Anita Saarkessian
Anita Sarkeesian is a Canadian-American feminist media critic and public speechwriter. Feminist Frequency was founded by Sarkeesian. The site hosts videos with commentary that analyze the depictions of women in contemporary culture. Anita Sarkeesian, a Canadian-American blogger and media critic who has been awarded prizes for her work, is an activist blogger. Feminist Frequency explores how women are depicted in popular culture. In her efforts to break down stereotypes related to women in popular culture, she has also been working on issues related the gender-specific harassment of women as well as other classes of people online. Sarkeesian, who has a Master's in Social and Political thought at York University, is a sought after public speaking. She has given speeches at TEDxWomen's XOXO Festival and the United Nations Broadband Working Group for Gender. She was fascinated by gender issues and feminism since a young age. When she graduated in 2009, in university she launched her Feminist Frequency site. She had a plan to launch a web series that would examine gender-based representations in video games. She was the subject of a harassment online campaign. It was not enough to deter her. In fact, it made her more committed to being a feminist and a media critic. She has won numerous awards for her contribution to feministism. Anita Sarkeesian, a media journalist who has received several awards and founded Feminist Frequency which is an educational non-profit that examines the way women are depicted in the popular culture stories.
